Skills are ready-made templates that let your AI Agent perform specific tasks that need a connected integration. In this article, we'll show you what skills are, where to find them, and how to add one to your AI Agent.

What are skills?

A skill packages a task, the integration it needs, and the behaviour around it (what to ask, what to update, and when to hand off to a teammate) into one configurable template. Instead of writing this logic into your AI Agent's prompt yourself, you fill out a short setup form and Trengo takes care of the rest.

Skills are added on top of an existing AI Agent. If you haven't set one up yet, first read Creating your AI Agent, or use Quick Setup to create one in a few steps.

Skills for Support

Support teams use their AI Agent to resolve day-to-day conversations without a connected skill. For use cases that need to reach into another system, such as looking up an order or shipment status, checking a return or refund, you can connect specific skills. So your agent can retrieve real data and take action instead of just replying with text.

1. WISMO – Where is my order: Goal: Give customers a clear, reassuring update on their order status. Trigger: Customer asks about the status, location, or delivery of their order.

2. Returns, refunds & payment support: Goal: Guide returns, refunds, and payment issues to the right team with full context. Trigger: Customer mentions a return, refund, or payment problem.

3. Product availability & back-in-stock: Goal: Confirm stock, register interest, and follow up on restocks. Trigger: Customer asks whether a product is in stock or when it will be restocked.

4. Pre- and post-purchase support: Goal: Answer pre-purchase questions and handle time-sensitive post-purchase changes. Trigger: Customer asks a question before or shortly after placing an order.

Skills for Sales

Trengo for Sales adds two ready-made skills that connect your AI Agent to your CRM and calendar, so qualified conversations turn into pipeline automatically.

1. Lead qualification: Your AI Agent asks the right qualifying questions in the conversation, determines whether a lead is sales-ready, and updates your CRM accordingly. Read Setting up the lead qualification skill to configure it.

2. Appointment scheduling: Your AI Agent books a meeting with a qualified lead directly in the conversation, so there's no back-and-forth to find a slot. Read Setting up the appointment scheduling skill to configure it.

Add a skill to your AI Agent

  1. Go to AI Agents and select the AI Agent you want to configure;
  2. Open the Skills tab;
  3. Select the skill you want to add and click 'Configure';
  4. Set the fields for that skill (these differ per skill, see the dedicated articles linked above) and make sure the required integrations are connected;
  5. Click 'Install skill'.

Test before going live

Once a skill is installed, review your AI Agent's prompt and make any final adjustments if needed. Then, try out your setup in Preview before going live.

We recommend testing your most common use cases and questions first, to build confidence in your AI Agent before switching it on for real conversations.
