With the lead qualification skill, your AI Agent asks the right qualifying questions in the conversation, decides whether a lead is sales-ready, and updates your CRM accordingly, without your sales team having to filter every conversation by hand. In this article, we'll show you how to add and configure this skill.

ℹ️ This is one of two skills available as part of Trengo for Sales. For an overview of all skills, read Setting up skills for your AI Agent.

Add the skill

  1. Go to AI Agents and select the AI Agent you want to configure;
  2. Open the Skills tab;
  3. Under Lead qualification, click 'Configure'.

Set the fields below and make sure the required integrations are connected. Trengo uses this information to set up the underlying behaviour of your AI Agent.

Step 1: Connect your integrations

Lead qualification requires a connected CRM. Currently, HubSpot is supported.

HubSpot: Create a Private App in HubSpot under Settings > Integrations > Private Apps, and paste its access token into Trengo.

ℹ️ Your Private App needs the following scopes to work correctly:

  • crm.objects.contacts.read
  • crm.objects.contacts.write
  • crm.objects.companies.read
  • crm.objects.companies.write
  • crm.objects.owners.read
  • crm.objects.notes.write
  • crm.objects.meetings.write
  • crm.schemas.companies.read

All of the scopes above are required. crm.objects.meetings.write is needed even if you don't use appointment scheduling, since logging meetings and interactions is always enabled for this skill.

ℹ️ Treat your Private App access token like a password: don't share it outside HubSpot and Trengo, and only grant the scopes listed above. If you ever suspect the token has been exposed, rotate it in HubSpot immediately.

Step 2: Add context

How is a qualified lead defined? Describe the criteria a member of your sales team would use to qualify a lead. For example: collecting important contact information, understanding which product or service they're interested in, their company size, or location. If there are specific disqualifying details, be sure to call those out here too, so your AI Agent knows when to disqualify a lead instead.

Step 3: Set up your actions

For each possible outcome, on qualification, on disqualification, and on escalation, configure what should happen next.

1. HubSpot lead status: The lead status the contact is updated to in HubSpot once this outcome is reached.

2. Conversation label (Optional): The label added to the conversation in Trengo, so your team can recognise and filter these conversations at a glance.

3. Update ticket status to: The status the conversation is set to in Trengo, for example Open, Pending, or Closed.

4. Assign conversation to (Optional): The team or team member the conversation is handed over to.

5. Qualification requires appointment booking?: Turn this on if a lead should only count as qualified once a meeting has been booked with your team. This works together with the appointment scheduling skill.

6. Add to board (Optional): If you use Trengo's boards, choose which board and stage the lead should be added to.

Repeat this for all three outcomes, on qualification, on disqualification, and on escalation, then click 'Install skill'.

Test before going live

Once your skill is installed, review the prompt and make any final adjustments if needed. Then, try out your setup in Preview before going live.

We recommend testing your most common use cases and questions first, to build confidence in your AI Agent before switching it on for real conversations.
