HelpMate can leverage information directly from your website to provide even more accurate and comprehensive responses to your customers. This article explains how to add websites as knowledge sources and what to expect from this feature.

Adding Websites to Your Knowledge Collection

You can add website URLs directly to your HelpMate knowledge collections. This allows HelpMate to access and learn from the content of those websites, enriching its knowledge base.

To add a website:

  1. Navigate to your HelpMate settings within Trengo.
  2. Select the knowledge collection you want to add the website to, or create a new one.
  3. In the "Knowledge Sources" section, you'll find an option to add a website URL.
  4. Enter the URL of the website you wish to add.
Note - you are able to add both entire websites, or specific pages to your knowledge collection. Currently, when you add any website address (like example.com, support.example.com, or example.com/help), HelpMate will automatically include that page and all pages beneath it. For instance, if you add example.com/help, we'll also search example.com/help/contact, example.com/help/faq, and so on.Coming soon: We're working on a feature that will let you limit your search to just the exact page you've added, without including all the pages beneath it.
  5. Click "Add."

Feature Highlights:

  • Loading State: A loading indicator is displayed when Trengo is checking and adding a website URL, verifying accessibility and content readability, providing transparency.
  • Error Messages: You’ll see informative error messages for inaccessible or unreadable websites, aiding in issue resolution.

How HelpMate Uses Website Information

HelpMate uses the content from your added websites as an additional source of knowledge. This means that when a customer asks a question, HelpMate will search both your uploaded documents and your website content to find the most relevant answer.

Keep in mind that website content supplements, but does not replace, the information in your PDF and document collections. For optimal results, ensure your document collections are comprehensive and up-to-date.

Best Practices

  • Ensure website accessibility: Make sure the websites you add are publicly accessible and do not require logins or other forms of authentication.
    • Note - if Cloudflare is used - access to the website for reading information might not be available;
  • Regularly update website content: Keep your website content up-to-date to ensure HelpMate provides accurate information.
  • Have your websites SEO-friendly. It's recommended to avoid using interactive elements that hide important content. This includes features like pop-ups, modal windows, or any content that only appears after a user takes an action (such as clicking or hovering).
    • If you have essential information currently displayed in pop-ups, drop-downs, etc. - we recommend uploading that content to HelpMate as part of the PDF/Doc knowledge base collection. This ensures the information is accessible, searchable, and can be used as a source of knowledge.
  • Prioritize document collections: Use document collections for critical information that requires high accuracy.
  • Test HelpMate responses: After adding websites, test HelpMate's responses to ensure it is providing accurate and relevant information. Use Sandbox.
  • Don’t use Google Doc URLs as a source of knowledge. Please, convert Google Docs to PDF - and upload to the Knowledge collection.

By leveraging websites as knowledge sources, you can significantly enhance HelpMate's ability to assist your customers, providing them with accurate and timely information.
